Lumenarca began because of a bad reading. Not one given here — one received, at a fair in 2015, in which a stranger told a friend something about her health with complete confidence and no qualification whatsoever to do so. She spent three months frightened before a doctor put it right.
The problem was not that the reader was insincere. It was that nobody had ever taught her where the edge of the practice was. There was no course to point at then that took that question seriously, so this one was built, and the ethics block is the part of it we would defend first.
Three tutors, one room, and about ninety students a year across everything. Courses run live rather than as recordings because half of what we teach is what to do in the second after someone says something unexpected, and that cannot be pre-recorded.
Groups are capped at fourteen. Above that, either the practice half of each session stops working or the sessions get too long to hold attention, and we have tried both.
Every student agrees to this before reading for anyone outside the course, and it is the standard the diploma is assessed against.
Two students have been asked to leave the diploma since 2017, both for the last-but-one item on that list. We mention it because a code nobody has ever been held to is decoration.
A structured way of talking about a situation, using a fixed set of images old enough to have accumulated meaning, in which the reader's job is to open up options the sitter had stopped being able to see. That framing is not universally shared and we do not require students to share it — but it is what the teaching assumes, and it is fairer to say so before you pay than after.
Fees pay three part-time wages, the rent on one room, and the licences for the video platform. There are no investors, no affiliate arrangements with deck publishers, and nothing on this site is a paid placement. We do not sell decks, because a school that grades your work should not also be selling you equipment.
First floor, no lift. Accessible-venue dates are arranged twice a year for the workshops; the taught courses are online in any case, which for some students is the reason they can take them at all.
